MINIMALISTIC HOME TIPS & HOW TO GET YOU STARTED

Minimalism's core idea centers on the need to not need much. A minimalist life is living with the bare essentials and not having much at all. A minimalistic home is a simple, straightforward, efficient plan layout with stacked volumes of spaces, open floor plans, minimal interior walls, modest storage areas, and an emphasis on views and daylight are defining characteristics of many minimalist floor plans

Minimalist Tips to get you started:

  1. Declutter

First things first, you must be ready to let go of the old and only keep the essentials. As the saying goes “Less is more”. Sort your things out for donation & for keeps, let go of the things that don't make you happy, and keep the things that bring you joy.

  1. Create smart storage spaces

Minimalism is neat & tidy, creating smart storage spaces in areas you can never possibly think that they are great areas to be a storage space! Having unique and smart storage spaces is the backbone of a minimalist home.

  1. Natural lighting

In a minimalist home, we tend to make small spaces look bigger by opening up the walls as part of the outside living space or adding big windows to let the natural light in and bring in a very refreshing feel of the house. Being in a minimalist home makes you more to become one with nature than being inside a closed-door home. When you open them up you’ll see the difference.

  1. Mirrors

You will often see in a minimalist home how they make smart use of the mirrors. Mirrors are used to open up the room, creating an illusion of a bigger space in the room to make a room feel twice as big as it actually is.

  1. Add plants

Plants are a great addition inside every home, you can put plants as tall or as small as you want. Plants give more life and a warm feel inside any room, so make use of what nature can give us.

  1. Lastly, the use of neutral tones with a touch of bright accents

The use of Neutral tones is very effective in having a minimalist home. This may sound boring but hear me out. The idea is to think of 3 colors that go well with each other and then you can add up some pop of color as accents but not as part of the main color for the room.

Example: For your Living room you can use beige or white as your wall paint and use the natural brown wood stain for the cabinets and shelves and then for the accents let say you want to add a gold bowl in the center table and/or pop of yellow in the throw pillow or perhaps bring in a lime green colored accent chair. I mean you get the idea right? In a very neutral colored space, it’s a good idea to bring in some small pops of color to accentuate the feel of the whole room, the neutral tone can show sophistication while the accent colors show your happy and playful personality.

Always think of this, your home is an extension of your personality. Show your creative side! Have fun trying these tips! We hope this helps you in getting started with minimalism in one corner of your home.
